THE MAMA'S COOK BOOK - Jean Aaron

    Recipe Introduction

The MAMA'S COOK BOOK was prepared by the Pre-School Group of the Louisville (Georgia) Parent Teacher Association many years ago when most women knew the ins and outs of cooking. Therefore part of the directions are sometimes left out.

    List of Ingredients

    2 cups sugar (1 lb.)
    2 cups butter (1 lb.)
    4 cups flour (1 lb.)
    10 eggs (1 lb.)

    Recipe

Beat the yolks and whites of the eggs separately. Cream the butter and cream the sugar into it. Add the yolks and mix well. Add the stiff egg whites alternately with the flour. Long beating of air into this mixture is the success of this cake. Put into oven when you can bear your hand on the bottom (must be bottom of oven), and gradually increase the oven heat to moderate. Bake two hours.

A half-pound cake may be successfully made with half the quatities.
