    Chocolate Bread

    Source of Recipe

    Cookshelf Baking by Emma Patmore

    List of Ingredients

4 c strong white bread flour
    1/4 c unsweetened cocoa
    1 tsp salt
    1 packet active dry yeast
    2 tbsp light brown sugar
    1 tbsp oil
    1 1/2 c lukewarm water

    Recipe

lightly grease a 2 pound loaf pan.
Sift the flour and cocoa into a large mixing bowl. Stir in the salt, yeast, and brown sugar. Pour in the oil along with the water and mix the ingredients together to make a dough. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until dough has doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and shape it into the prepared pan, cover, and then let rise in a warm place for another 30 minutes.
Bake the dough in a preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 25-30 minutes, or until a hollow sound can be heard when the base of the bread is tapped.
Transfer the bread to a wire rack and cool. Cut into slices to serve.
