    My Original Recipe

    Recipe Introduction

I created this recipe to fit into a healthy diet by using ground sirloin. You may also use fat free ingredients such as skim milk and fat free cheese.

    List of Ingredients

    SHARON’S SHEPHERD PIE

    2 ½ # ground sirloin
    1 onion, thinly sliced
    ¾ cup flour
    3 tsp. Beef bouillon
3 cups hot water (or skim milk)
1 cup shredded or sliced cheddar cheese (can use fat free)
    2 tsp salt
    2 tsp black pepper
Prepared Mashed Potatoes (enough for 12 servings according to box on Instant Potato Flakes)
    1 tsp Paprika
    1 tsp Parsley, dried

    Recipe

Cook and brown ground sirloin and onion. Gradually add flour, mixing thoroughly. Cook and stir mixture until flour is slightly browned. Dissolve beef bouillon in hot water. Gradually add to meat mixture, stirring constantly. Add enough water until a medium thick gravy is formed. Add salt and pepper. Stir in cheese until melted and mixed well in gravy. Turn mixture into a large casserole dish. Spoon mashed potatoes on top of meat mixture. Spread and swirl potatoes. Sprinkle top with paprika and parsley. Spritz surface of potatoes with cooking spray. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees about 25 minutes or until potatoes begin to brown slightly.

Variation: Add shredded cheddar cheese to mashed potatoes, or sprinkle top of potatoes with cheese. Use swiss cheese in place of cheddar. Add mushrooms to meat mixture. Add sour cream to gravy to give stroganoff flavor.
