    1 (1-gallon) bottle inexpensive red wine (such as burgundy)

    1/4 cup granulated sugar

    2 or 3 cinnamon sticks

    2 tablespoons whole cloves

    1 tablespoon whole black peppercorns

    1 piece whole dried ginger or 1 (1-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled

    Recipe



    Combine wine, sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, peppercorns and ginger. Warm over medium heat, but do not let boil. Strain out the spices; serve warm.

    Serves 20.
