    List of Ingredients

    2 cups flour
    3 tablespoons sugar
    1 tablespoon baking powder
    ½ teaspoon salt
    ½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ cup butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
    1 egg
    ½ cup milk (approximately)
    1/3 cup dried currants

    Recipe

Preheat oven to 450 Degrees F. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Cut in cold butter w/ pastry blender until mixture looks like coarse meal. Whisk egg and divide it in half. Beat 1 tablespoon of the milk into half of the egg and set aside. Add enough milk to remaining mixture to make ½ cup liquid. Mix w/ dry ingredients until just combined. Add currants. Turn dough out on floured board, roll it out ½-inch thick and cut w/ biscuit cutter. Place scones on ungreased cookie sheet. Brush tops w/ reserved egg mixture. Bake at 450 degrees F. for about 15 minutes. Serve w/ thick clotted cream or whipped cream and fruit preserves.
