    340g plain flour
    200g butter
    125g caster sugar
    6 tablespoons Ale
    currants, dried cranberries or chocolate drops to decorate

    Make a rich shortcrust pastry by rubbing the fat into the flour, then add the sugar, mix well before adding the beer to make a dough. Roll out to about 1 cm thick and use a round cutter to make small biscuits.
    Put on a greased baking sheet. Decorate with the dried fruit or chocolate, brush with a little milk and bake at 350°F/180°C/gas mark 4 for 12-15 minutes.
    These were traditionally made and sold at Llanddarog Fair but cut into rectangular shapes and decorated with currants.
