    1 pound dried lima beans

    1/2 pound beef round steak

    1/4 cup chopped onion

    2 tablespoons fat or salad oil

    1 can tomato soup

    1 teaspoon sugar

    1 tablespoon salt

    Salt pork strips

    Recipe



    Wash beans; discard imperfect ones. Cover with cold water; soak overnight. Or, cover with large amount boiling water; soak 4-5 hours. Drain; cover with large amount boiling salted water. Cover; boil slowly 2 hours; drain. Cut beef in 1/2" cubes. Brown with onion in fat or salad oil. Combine with beans.

    Add tomato soup (to condensed soup, add equal amount of water using soup can to measure). Add sugar and salt. Pour mixture into bean pot; top with salt pork. Bake in moderately hot oven 375ºF 1 hour. Serves 4<
