    Cabbage Casserole

    1 large head of cabbage
    1 tsp salt
    1/2 stick of margarine
    3 cups basic white sauce
    2 cups of grated cheddar cheese
    1 & 1/2 cups of buttered bread crumbs

    Recipe



    Shred cabbage. Cook 5-8 minutes in boiling water with 1 tsp salt. Don't
    overcook. Cabbage should remain crisp. Drain well. Layer cabbage in buttered 2
    quart casserole dish: cabbage, enough sauce to cover, second layer of cabbage,
    remaining sauce, then cheese. Top with buttered crumbs. Bake in preheated oven
    at 300 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

    Basic White Sauce
    1 cup margarine
    3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    salt and pepper
    1 quart milk

    Melt margarine in a sauce pot. Add flour, salt, and pepper. Add milk and cook
    until thick, stirring constantly.

    Yield: 8-10 servings.
