    4 pork chops, about 1" thick
    salt and pepper
    1 bay leaf
    4 medium onions -- sliced
    4 medium potatoes -- peeled and sliced
    2 cups milk

    Recipe



    Preheat the oven to 350.

    Trim the chops of excess fat. Try the fat out in a frying pan over medium heat. When the pieces are golden brown, remove them with a slotted spoon and fry the chops in the released fat 5 minutes per side.

    Put chops in a casserole of a size to hold them all in one layer; salt and pepper to taste and lay the bay leaf on top. Put a layer of onions then one of potatoes over. Salt and pepper again.

    Pour the milk over; cover the casserole closely with foil AND a lid and bake 2 hours. When the dish is done, all the liquid will be absorbed and the whole thing will be golden.
