    List of Ingredients

    For the Chili:
    3/4 pound extra-lean ground beef
    2 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium yellow onion, chopped (about 1 cup)
1 can (15 ounces) chopped stewed tomatoes
    1 cup beef broth
    2 tablespoons chili powder
    1 teaspoon ground cumin
    1 teaspoon dried oregano
    1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1 can (15 ounces) pinto beans, drained
    1/2 teaspoon salt

    For the Lasso Topping:
1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated bread dough
    1 egg yolk, lightly beaten

    Recipe

    Making the Chili:
    1. In a large saucepan, cook ground beef, garlic and onion over medium heat, stirring until beef is browned, about 10 minutes. Drain well. Stir in tomatoes with liquid, broth, chili powder, cumin, oregano and cayenne pepper. Reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour. Add pinto beans and salt. Cook, stirring, for 15 minutes longer.

    Making the Lasso Topping:
    1. While chili is cooking, preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a baking sheet with vegetable cooking spray.

    2. On a lightly floured surface, open the bread dough and separate 4 portions from the dough (save the remaining dough for another time).

    3. Using the palm of your hand, roll each piece into a thin strip and twist into a lasso shape.

    4. Place on prepared baking sheet. Brush with egg yolk. Bake until lassos are golden, about 15 minutes. To serve, ladle out individual portions of chili; arrange a lasso on top of each.

    Serves 4
