1 lb. lean ground beef
3/4 lb. sweet Italian sausage without casing
2 tbsp. olive oil, divided
1 large chopped onion
1 large chopped green bell pepper
2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and finely chopped
2 dry bay leaves
6 garlic minced cloves
2 28 oz cans crushed tomatoes with the liquid
3 tbsp. chili powder
2 tbsp. ground cumin
2 tbsp. packed brown sugar
1 tbsp. ground black pepper
2 tsp. dried oregano
2 tsp. dried basil
1 pinch cayenne pepper
2 tbsp. lime juiceRecipe
with 1 tbsp. olive oil, sautee in a large pot the beef and sausage with the onions until soft.
In second pan with the second tbsp. oil, sautee the garlic and jalapeno chilis.
Add all the rest of the ingredients, plus the chilis to the pot with meat and onions. Bring to a boil then simmer for 1 hour.
Serve the next day with accompanying tabasco, chopped red onion, grated Monterey jack cheese, and sour cream
