    Hungarian Pork Chops

    List of Ingredients




    * 6 pork chops, about 1/2-inch thick
    * Salt and black pepper, freshly ground, to taste
    * 3 tablespoons lard or butter
    * 1 medium onion, chopped
    * 1 clove garlic, minced
    * 1 bay leaf
    * 3/4 cup chicken bouillon
    * 1 cup sour cream
    * 2 teaspoons paprika

    Trim excess fat from the pork chops and sprinkle them with salt and pepper.

    Heat the lard in a skillet and saute the onion and garlic until soft and golden. Push aside or remove from the skillet. Add the pork chops and brown on all sides. Pour off the fat. Lower the heat and add the bay leaf and bouillon.

    Cook, covered, over low heat for about 1 hour. Transfer the chops to a hot serving plate and keep hot.

    Reduce the pan juices by half by cooking the mixture over high heat. Remove from the heat; add the sour cream and paprika and blend thoroughly with the pan juices. Heat through but do not boil. Pour the sauce over the chops.

    Makes 4 to 6 servings.
