    Served for Shabbat.

    List of Ingredients




    1 4-lb. beef brisket
    6 cloves garlic
    Salt and pepper to taste
    Paparika
    2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    2 large onions, chopped
    6 carrots, peeled and chopped
    4-5 stalks celery, chopped
    1 cup water or tomato juice
    1 envelope dry onion soup mix

    Preheat oven to 325°. Rinse brisket with water and pat dry. Rub the meat on all sides with crushed garlic and sprinkle with salt, pepper and paparika. Heat oil in a heavy bottomed casserole and brown the meat on all sides. Add onions, carrots and celery. Cover with water or tomato juice and sprinkle with dried onion soup mix. Cover and bake for 3 hours. Before serving, remove the cover and brown an additional 1/2 hour.

    Serves 6 to 8.
