    Recipe Introduction

The extra dashes of spices in this recipe augment the curry powder's flavor and color (a large mixture of spices is traditional in Pakistani food). If you don't have all or any of the extra "dashes," add a little more curry powder.

    List of Ingredients

    3 tablespoons butter or margarine
    1 cup onion, chopped
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1 pound ground beef
    1 tablespoon curry powder
    1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    Dash pepper
    Dash cinnamon (optional)
    Dash ginger (optional)
    Dash turmeric (optional)
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes, or 2 cups cooked tomatoes
    2 potatoes, diced very small
2 cups frozen peas or green beans

    Recipe

Melt butter or margarine in a wide skillet and add onion and garlic. Cook over medium-high heat about 5 minutes. Add ground beef and cook until brown. Strain extra fat, if any. Add remaining ingredients and cook 25 minutes, covered. Serve over hot rice.

    Makes 5 to 6 servings.
