    Famous Barbecue Shrimp

    Source of Recipe

12/22/2003 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

    Recipe Introduction

This recipe is from Don Shula's Steak House, circa 1995, and what
really makes it wonderful is not only the sauce but the fresh basil.
    Don Shula's Steak House

    List of Ingredients

    1 cup thick barbecue sauce
    1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
    1 tablespoon honey
    1 tablespoon coarsely ground pepper
16 large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
    16 fresh basil leaves
8 strips bacon, cut in half
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted

    Recipe

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine barbecue sauce, horseradish, honey and pepper in a food processor or blender. Process until smooth. Set aside.

Wrap each shrimp in a fresh basil leaf, then in a half slice of bacon; secure with a toothpick. Place on a cookie sheet, brush with butter and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, turning halfway through and brushing again with butter. Turn on broiler; brown shrimp on both sides, 3 to 4 minutes total. Toss with the sauce and serve at once.
