Brad Johnson, Quarterback, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    List of Ingredients

    tbs extra virgin olive oil
2 lbs Italian sausage (mild or hot to taste), casings removed
    2 lbs ground sirloin
    4 medium cloves garlic, minced
2 cans (6 oz each) tomato paste
2 cans (28 oz each) tomato puree
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes, plus 1 can water
    2-3 tbs fresh basil chopped
    2-3 tbs fresh oregano chopped
    3 tbs sugar
    3 chicken bouillon cubes
    3 beef bouillon cubes
    1 cup dry red wine
2 cups Romano cheese, freshly grated
    salt and pepper to taste
    2 lbs ricotta cheese
    1 egg beaten
    1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 lb lasagna noodles, cooked and separated
    2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

    Recipe

In a large frying pan, brown the sausage, ground sirloin, and garlic in the olive oil.

Add the tomato paste, tomato purTe and the crushed tomatoes. Stir to blend.

Add the can of water, the basil, oregano, sugar, bouillon cubes, wine, and 1 cup of the Romano cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste. Stir and simmer for 1 hour.

In a large mixing bowl, make the cheese filling by mixing the ricotta cheese, the beaten egg, one-half cup of the Romano cheese, the garlic powder and a dash of salt and pepper to taste. Blend thoroughly.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a 12" by 14" baking pan or dish, spread enough of the tomato sauce to cover the bottom of the dish. Next, line the dish with a layer of lasagna noodles. Then, spread some of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat these layers until the pan is filled. Top with the last of the tomato sauce, sprinkled with the last of the Romano and mozzarella cheese.

Bake for 25 minutes or until the cheese is completely melted.
