List of Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- dash salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 4 egg whites
- 3/4 cups sour milk/buttermilk
- 1/2 cup amaretto
- 1 cup slivered almonds
Recipe
1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2) Grease and lightly flour 2 medium size loaf pans.
3) Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
4) In a large mixing bowl, beat the shortening with an electric mixer for 1 minute
5) Add sugar and vanilla, beat untill creamy.
6) Add egg whites, one at a time, beating 2 minutes after each.
7) Mix amaretto and milk together in a separate bowl.
8) Alternately add dry and wet ingredients to the egg-sugar-shortening mixture, beating on a low speed until combined after each addition.
9) Stir in almonds, pour mixture into the loaf pans.
10) Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes, until tops are golden brown and inserted wooden toothpick comes out clean.
