    175g wholemeal flour
    5ml spoon baking powder
    ½ x 5ml spoon mixed spice
    75g margarine
    125g light brown soft sugar
    1 medium size egg, beaten
    250g cooking apples, peeled and grated coarsely
    50g walnuts, chopped
    3 x 15ml spoons milk
    25g demerara sugar

    Recipe



    Place the flour, baking powder and mixed spice in a bowl, mix together and set aside.

    Beat the margarine and light brown sugar together until creamy, then add the egg, beating well.

    Fold in the flour mixture, then the apple and walnuts. Stir in the milk.

    Turn the mixture into a greased 13 x 18 cm loaf dish, level the top, then sprinkle with the demerara.

    Cook on HIGH for 5 minutes. Leave to stand for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool. Cut into slices and serve. Best eaten same day as making.
