    2001 Indiana State Fair - 2nd Place Ribbon - Phyllis Miller of Rushville

    List of Ingredients




    1 cup sugar
    1/4 cup water
    1/2 cup shaved orange rind
    1/4 cup butter
    1 cup orange juice
    2 eggs, slightly beaten
    3 teaspoons Clabber Girl Baking Powder
    2 1/4 cups flour
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1 cup chopped nuts
    GLAZE:
    2 cups powdered sugar (confectioners')
    3 to 4 tablespoons orange juice
    1 teaspoon grated orange peel

    Recipe



    Combine sugar and water in saucepan. Add orange rind anc cook, stirring occasionally till sugar is dissolved. Cook over low heat for 5 minutes stirring constantly. Remove from heat, add butter and stir till melted. Cool slightly. Add juice and eggs, mix well. In a separate bowl combine dry ingredinets. Add to orange mixture.
    Pour into a 9"x5"x3" loaf pan.

    Bake at 350 degrees F. for 60 to 70 minutes, until bread tests done.
    GLAZE: In a small bowl, combine all glaze ingredients. Mix together until smooth. Spoon over warm loaf
