    Double Apple Turnovers

    Source of Recipe

    Source: Smucker's®

    List of Ingredients

1/2 cup Smucker’s Cider Apple Butter

1/2 cup apple cider or juice

    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

    1 orange peel, grated*

    1/4 cup golden raisins

4 large, firm apples, peeled, cored and chopped

1 package frozen filo (phyllo) dough

    Crisco No-Stick Cooking Spray

    Sugar

    Recipe

In large saucepan, combine Smucker’s apple butter, cider, cinnamon and grated orange peel; simmer for 5 minutes. Add raisins and simmer for 2 minutes more. Add apples and cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes or until apples begin to soften and most of liquid evaporates. Cool in refrigerator.

Unwrap filo dough but keep covered with damp cloth. Remove 1 sheet of dough; spray with nonstick cooking spray. Top with second sheet of dough; spray with Crisco No-Stick Cooking Spray.

Spoon about 1/3 cup of apple filling on lower right corner of the dough. Fold dough over filling to form a large rectangle. Then fold turnover as if it were a flag, making a triangular packet with each turn. Repeat this process until all turnovers are made.

Place finished turnovers on baking sheet; sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 375 degrees F for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.

*Note: Grate orange part of peel only, not bitter white part.
