    1 egg
    1 c brown sugar
    pinch salt
    1/4 tsp baking soda
    1 c hickory or other nut meats
    5 tbsp flour

    To prepare this Nut Squares Recipe, first beat one egg with one cup of brown sugar, a pinch of salt and one-fourth saltspoon of soda; add one cup of hickory or other nut meats chopped fine and five tablespoons of flour. Bake for about twenty minutes in a moderate oven; when cold cut into squares. Butternut meats make these even more delicious than hickory nuts.
