List of Ingredients
8 medium-size Golden Delicious apples
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon plus 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine
3/4 cup dried cranberries
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
2 cups granola
Sweetened whipped heavy cream, vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt (optional)
Recipe
1. Pare, core and slice each apple into 12 wedges. Toss wedges with lemon juice in large bowl until completely coated.
2. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in large skillet over medium heat. Add apples. Sprinkle with cranberries, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and cloves; cover and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes or until apples are tender but not brown.
3. Meanwhile, melt remaining 1/4 cup butter or margarine in another large skillet or saucepan. Stir in granola; cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until lightly golden.
4. Sprinkle 1/2 cup crumb mixture over bottom of 2-quart serving bowl. Layer with one-third of the apple mixture. Repeat layering with the crumb mixture and apple mixture two more times, ending with layer of crumbs. Chill several hours or serve at room temperature, with whipped cream, ice cream or frozen yogurt if desired.
