Heirloom Tomato Salad

balsamic vinaigrette
3 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tsp minced garlic
1⁄2 tsp salt
4 lb assorted heirloom tomatoes or other garden-fresh tomatoes
1⁄2 cup tiny globe or bush basil leaves (or larger leaves, torn small)
1⁄2 tsp freshly ground pepper
Recipe
1. Vinaigrette: Whisk ingredients in a 2-cup glass measure until blended.
2. Core, then slice tomatoes about 1⁄3 in. thick. Arrange on serving platter. Tuck some basil between slices. Scatter rest over tomatoes.
3. Whisk Vinaigrette. Drizzle over tomatoes through a small strainer (discard garlic); sprinkle with pepper. Serve at room temperature.
