    Unknown
    Mix thoroughly with electric mixer:
    ¾ cup shortening
    1 cup brown sugar
    1 egg
    ¼ cup molasses

    Add in and mix well:
    2-1/4 cups flour
    2 tsp. baking soda
    ¼ tsp. salt
    ½ tsp. cloves
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. ginger

Roll into 1” balls and dip tops in sugar.
Place 2” apart on greased sheets. Sprinkle each with a couple drops of water (optional).

Bake at 375°F. for 10-12 minutes. They will puff up during baking and then flatten while cooling. Remove to cool on racks or paper towels.

    Yield: 4-1/2 dozen

Notes: Good recipe. Official “Vacation Cookies”. Be careful not to overbake them or they won’t be nice and chewy-soft or to underbake them (they’ll fall apart). Convection bake at 350°F. for 8 minutes. Large cookie scoop yields 29. Smallest cookie scoop yields 4 dozen (double= 106 cookies)
