Thumbprint Cookies

Mix:
½ cup margarine
½ cup shortening
½ cup brown sugar
2 egg yolks (save whites)
1 tsp. vanilla
Work in:
2 cups flour
½ tsp. salt
Shape dough into 1” balls. Roll in egg whites and then in finely chopped nuts. Place on ungreased sheet and press thumb deeply in center.
Bake at 350°F. for 10 minutes.
Remove immediately. Fill with jelly.
Yield: 55 cookies
Notes: 12/83 -- Fits on two small cookie sheets. They do rise and spread.
12/01 -- Used 1” cookie scoop and got 36 cookies.
