    Combine in saucepan over high heat, whisk until smooth:
    1 cup water
    ¾ cup light corn syrup
    ½ cup tomato paste
    2/3 cup vinegar
    1/3 cup brown sugar
    3 Tbs. molasses
    1-1/4 tsp. hickory flavored liquid smoke
    1 tsp. salt
    ¼ tsp. onion powder
    ¼ tsp. pepper
    1/8 tsp. paprika
    1/8 tsp. garlic powder
    dash cayenne pepper

    Bring mixture to a boil and then decrease heat and simmer uncovered for 45 minutes or until thick.

    Cool and store covered in refrigerator overnight.

    Yield: 1-1/2 cups

    Notes: 8/04—Used one can of tomato paste and simmered for one hour. It was too sweet so I added ¼ tsp. hickory smoked salt which added a smokier flavor. This is a sweeter type of BBQ sauce.
