Smashed Rutabagas & Turnips w/Parmesan

This is a great side for a nice juicy steak!
List of Ingredients
1 lb. rutabagas, peeled and chopped
1 t. salt
6 C. water
1 1/2 lbs. turnips, peeled and chopped
1/4 C. parmesan cheese
6 T. butter
1/2 C. whipping cream
3/4 t. salt and 1/4 t. pepper
2 T. bourbon (opt.)Recipe
Combine rutabagas, 1 t. salt, and the 6 C. water in a lrg. dutch oven; bring to a boil, and cook 25 minutes. Add the turnips, and cook 20 minutes more or until vegetables are tender, drain.
Combine veg's, cheese, and next 4 ingred. into a lrg. mixing bowl; mash w/a potato masher to desired consistency. Sitr in boubon - if desired.
***Using a very sharp knife, cut a small slice off one side of rutabaga. Rest it in it's sliced side for stability. Holding it firmly with a dish towel, cut into several slices using a rocking motion with the rutabaga and knife. Peel slices using a potato peeler or sharp paring knife. Chop to desired size.
