    Recipe Introduction

There are many recipes, including the one mom made from left over pork roast. These days I find using the crock pot more convenient. This recipe does need a little watching as the oats settle to the bottom and needs to be stirred frequently. Good recipe to do on laundry day.

    List of Ingredients

    1 lb lean ground beef
1 lb ground pork (not sausage)
    8 cups water
2 1/2 cups pinhead oats or steel cut oats
    2 large onions chopped fine
    4 ribs celery chopped fine
    1 Tbsp Salt
    1 tsp. Thyme
    2-3 Bay Leafs
    1 tsp. Sage
    1 teaspoon pepper

    Recipe

Place water, oats, salt and pepper into the crock pot and mix well. Cover and cook on high for 1 hour, stirring frequently.
In skillet cook onions and celery til whimpy
Mix meats together add to vegetables in skillet cook til meat is just done, break meat up well.
add all to crockpot, add salt and seasonings mix well.
Cook for 4 hours on low, stirring frequently as it tends to stick to bottom.
Cook uncovered for 30 minutes until thickened
Remove bay leaves Turn out into 3 loaf pans, cool and chill in fridge. Freezes well.
To serve: Slice and fry in a little butter until brown and crusty.
