    Recipe Introduction

I really never make this dish exactly the same way each time so it is hard to say what the true recipe is, but I thought it was time to try to write it down.

    List of Ingredients

    • 3/4 lb ground beef
    • 3/4 lb sweet italian sausage
    • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 1 32 oz jar of your favorite marinara sauce
    • 2 bay leaves
    • 1 teaspoon dried basil
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 12 dried lasagna noodles
    • 2 eggs, beaten
    • 2 cups ricotta cheese
    • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
    • 2 tablespoons dried parsley
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 pound shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 375. Brown ground beef, italian sausage, garlic, and onion over medium heat. Drain excess fat. Mix in sauce, bay leaves, basil, oregano, brown sugar, and salt. Simmer for 30 to 45 minutes. Stir often so sauce does not burn or stick to the bottom of the pan.
    2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook for about 7 or 8 minutes or until cooked to al dente; drain. Rinse in cool water and lay flat on towels and blot dry.
    3. In a bowl, mix eggs, ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, parsley and salt.
    4. Spray a 9 X 13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Layer 4 lasagna noodles in bottom of pan. Cover the noodles with half of the ricotta cheese mixture, 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese, and 1/3 of the sauce. Repeat. Top off with the remaining noodles, sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle the top with the remaining 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese
    5. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes or until the sauce if bubbly and the cheese is golden brown. Let stand for 20 minutes before cutting.
