    Bread and Butter Pickles

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 c. salt
    • 1 gallon water
    • 3 qts. small pickling cucumbers
    • 1 c. onion, sliced
    • 1 qt. white vinegar
    • 1 c. sugar
    • 1 Tbsp. mustard seed
    • 1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    • 1 tsp. ground tumeric
    • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    • 1/4 tsp. alum


    Instructions


    1. Make brine using 1 c. salt and 1 gallon water.

    2. Slice cucumbers and onions. Soak overnight in brine solution.

    3. In large pan, mix vinegar and spices. Bring to a boil. Drain cucumbers and onions. Place in boiling liquid. Boil until almost tender, 5-10 minutes. Pack in sterilized bottles and seal.
