    1½ c plus 1 tbsp sugar
    ½ to 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
    1 c shortening
    2 eggs
    1 tsp vanilla
    2¼ c all-purpose flour
    ½ tsp salt
    2 tsp cream of tartar

    Recipe



    Heat oven to 400°

    Combine 1 Tbsp and the cinnamon in a small bowl and set aside.

    Cream shortening in a mixing bowl and gradually add the remaining sugar, beating well. Add the eggs and beat well. Stir in vanilla.

    In separate bowl, combine dry ingredients. Add this mixture to the sugar and eggs, and beat well. Shape the dough into 1½ inch balls and roll each ball into the reserved sugar and cinnamon mixture.

    Place each ball 2" apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 minutes or until lightly browned. Allow the cookies to cool 5 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.
