    This is Rodger's favorite cake and I make it most years for his birthday (when he isn't watching his sugar!).

    List of Ingredients




    1 lb. raisins, cooked (boil in one cup water for 5 minutes)
    1 cup brown sugar
    1 cup granulated sugar
    1 cup cold water
    1/2 cup shortening
    3 cups flour
    2 tsps cinnamon
    1 tsp nutmeg
    1/2 tsp allspice
    1/2 cup water
    2 tsps baking soda

    Recipe



    Cream together brown sugar, granulated sugar, one cup cold water and shortening.

    Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture.

    Boil 1/2 cup water and add baking soda; remove from heat. Add to cake mixture and mix until incorporated.

    Pour into greased 13x9 pan and bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes. Tastes great sprinkled with powdered sugar or frost with vanilla or cream cheese frosting.
