    1/4 cup butter, softened
    2 cups sugar
    3/4 cup sour cream
    2 eggs
    2 cups plain flour
    1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 cup water
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    4 (1 oz.) squares semi-sweet chocolate, melted
    1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling
    1 (12 oz.) carton frozen whipped topping thawed

    Melt chocolate squares and cool. In mixing bowl add all cake ingredients and beat on low speed 1/2 minute and on high speed 3 minutes. Pour batter into 3 greased and floured paper lined layer cake pans. Bake in a 350° oven approximately 20 minutes or until cake tests done with wooden pick. Cool completely. Spoon cherry pie filling between layers. Frost cake with whipped topping and garnish with pie filling, if desired. Refrigerate cake.
