    GINGERBREAD UPSIDE DOWN CAKE

    Source of Recipe

    ldyolake

    List of Ingredients

    12 tablespoons butter
    1/3 cup dark brown sugar
2 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
    1 1/2 cups flour
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1 teaspoon ground ginger
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/2 cup milk
    1 egg

    Recipe

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Melt 4 tablespoons of the butter and brown sugar in an 8 x 8 square pan over low heat until blended. Arrange the apple slices in a sunburst design in the bottom of the pan and set aside.

Mix the flour, baking powder, spices, and sugar in a bowl. Melt the remaining butter in a small pan. Remove from the heat and add the milk and egg, beating well. Add this to the flour mixture, and beat until smooth. Pour over the apples and bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 5 - 10 minutes, then turn out on to serving dish, fruit side up.
