    List of Ingredients




    Vegetable Oil
    1-3/4 cups cornmeal
    1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    1 teaspoon sugar
    3/4 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
    1/2 cup diced onion
    1/2 to 1 (4-ounce) can diced jalapeño peppers
    1 cup buttermilk
    1 egg, beaten

    Recipe



    Fill a large deep-fry pot or electric skillet to half its depth with vegetable oil. Heat oil to 400°F. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, sift together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and garlic salt; blend well. Add onion and jalapeño peppers; stir until well blended. In small bowl, combine buttermilk and egg; add to dry ingredients. Stir until batter is moist and all ingredients are combined. Working in small batches, carefully drop batter by heaping tablespoons into hot oil. Fry until golden brown, turning once during frying. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve with your favorite salsa or dipping sauce.
