    Santa Maria Barbecue Beans

    List of Ingredients




    1 pound small pink beans(pinquitos)
    1 strip bacon, diced
    1/2 cup diced ham
    1 small clove garlic, minced
    3/4 cup tomato puree
    1/4 cup red chili sauce(Las Palmas brand if available)
    1 tablespoon sugar
    1 teaspoon dry mustard
    1 teaspoon salt
    Pinch of monosodium glutamate(MSG) or Accent

    Recipe





    1. Cover beans with water in large pot, let soak overnight.

    2. Drain, cover with fresh water. Simmer two hours or until tender.

    3. Sauté bacon and ham until lightly browned. Add garlic. Sauté. Add tomato puree, chili sauce, sugar mustard, salt and MSG.

    4. Drain most of the water from beans. Add sauce, serve warm.

    Serves 8
