    List of Ingredients


    • 1 Cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 Cup whole-wheat flour
    • 1/2 Cup wheat germ
    • 1/2 Cup powdered milk
    • 3 Tablespoons vegetable shortening
    • 1 Teaspoon brown sugar
    • 1/2 Teaspoon salt
    • 1/3 Cup water
    • 1 Teaspoon green food coloring
    • 1 Egg
    • 1 Teaspoon chopped fresh mint


    Instructions


    1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Coat a large cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
    2. In a large bowl, combine both flours, the wheat germ, powdered milk, shortening, brown sugar and salt; mix until crumbly.
    3. In a small bowl, combine water and food coloring; mix well. Add to flour mixture, along with the egg and mint; mix well.
    4. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until smooth. Using a rolling pin, roll to a 1/2 inch thickness. Using a wreath or dog bone shaped cookie cutter or knife, cut out biscuts and place on the cookie sheet.
    5. Bake the biscuits for 25-30 minutes or until browned around the edges. Remove to a wire rack to cool completely.


    Final Comments


    Veterinary Tip: Before give these to your dog, make sure you're aware of any allegeries he or she may have to wheat, eggs, dairy products or any of the other ingredients. Makes about 1 dozen biscuits.
