Apple-Pecan Dessert Squares

- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 3/4 packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 cup margarine
- 2 cup chopped tart apples
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- Topping
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup choppe pecans
- 2 Tbsp margarine
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 2 Tbsp milk
- Whip topping (optional)
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350. Spray 9" square pan with cooking spray.
- Mix flour, 3/4 cup brown sugar, cinnamon and baking soda.
- With pastry blender or fork, cut in 3/4 cup butter until mixture resembles coars crumbs. Stir in apples and egg.
- Press mixture into pan.
- Bake 25 to 30 minutes until center is puffed.
- To make topping: Combine all topping ingredients except whip topping to saucepan
- Cook over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil. Stirring frequently.
- Drizzle hot topping over warm cake and return to the oven for 5 minutes.
- Cool completely. Cut and serve with whip topping.
