    Grape Catsup


    5 pints grapes, washed and pulled from stems
    4 cups packed brown sugar
    1 pint cider vinegar
    2 tablespoons powdered allspice
    2 tablespoons powdered cinnamon
    2 tablespoons powdered cloves
    1 teaspoon powdered mace
    3/4 teaspoon cayenne
    1 teaspoon salt

    Recipe



    Cook grapes in agate or enamel kettle slowly, until soft, about 25 minutes. Put through colander.

    Combine with remaining ingredients, boil until thick, about 45 minutes. Stir frequently with enamel spoon.

    Pour into hot sterile glass jar.

    Makes 1 pint
