    Herb Casserole Bread

    1 loaf:

    1 cup warm water [105º F~115º F]
    1 package active dry yeast
    1/2 cup warm sour cream
    3 tablespoons soft butter or margarine
    2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon each dried marjoram,
    oregano and thyme leaves, crumbled
    1 egg, room temperature
    2 1/2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
    Melted butter or margarine


    Recipe



    1. Measure warm water into a warm, medium sized bowl. Add yeast. Stir
    until dissolved.

    2. Stir in sour cream, butter, sugar, salt, herbs and egg.

    3. Beat in 2 cups flour until well blended.

    4. Stir in 1/2 cup more flour or enough to make a soft dough.

    5. Cover dough loosely with plastic wrap. Let rise in warm place for
    45 minutes or until doubled.

    6. Stir down. Turn into greased 1 quart casserole. Let rise 20
    minutes or until doubled. Dough will rise a little over top of
    casserole.

    7. Bake at 375º F for 30 minutes or until done. Carefully remove from
    casserole. Cool on wire rack. Brush top with melted butter.

    Good served with: Soup or a cheesy salad.

    Preparation: 10 minutes.
    Rising time: 1 1/4 hours.
    Baking time: 30 minutes at 375º F.

    Yields: 9~12 slices.
