    1 c. all-purpose flour
    2/3 c. yellow corn meal
    1 1/2 tsp. sugar
    1 tsp. onion salt
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    dash of pepper
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    spicy mustard
    2/3 c. milk
    oil
    1 lb. frankfurters
    wooden skewers

    Recipe



    Combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, onion salt, baking
    powder and pepper in a large bowl. Cut in shortening until
    particles are the size of coarse crumbs. Combine egg, 1
    tablespoon mustard and milk. Add to dry ingredients. Stir
    until blended.
    Heat 3-inches of oil in deep saucepan to 365 degrees on deep
    fat frying thermometer. Dry off frankfurters. Insert skewer,
    spread or dip in batter. Brush off into hot oil and fry 2 to 3
    minutes until golden brown. May serve on skewers with more
    mustard for dipping.
    Makes 8 to 10 servings.
