    Ham & String Beans

    2 quarts fresh green beans or 3 - 16 to 20 oz. cans of green beans
    1 - 3 lb. to 4 lb. ham end or hamhocks
    3 to 4 medium size potatoes - cook until barely soft if using with
    canned green beans.
    1 1/2 cups water for cooking ham + 2 additional cups water if using
    fresh green beans. Do not drain canned green beans.
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp.pepper

    Preparation -
    Trim all visible fat from ham. Place in crockpot, add 1 1/2 cups
    water; set on high and cook for 2 to 3 hours. Reduce heat to low.
    Add other ingredients and cook for 4 to 5 more hours or until beans
    are tender for fresh green beans and potatoes. For canned green
    beans and potatoes, cook for 2 hours. Remove ham, trim any remaining
    fat; remove bone if any; cut into pieces and return to beans before
    serving.
