A note from my sister Dee:

I remember Mom had sent us out to pick blackberries (remember all the stuff that grew wild in our backyard there?). Every kid should live in a place like that just once in their life! Anyway, we brought her these HUGE blackberries that we were just DYING TO EAT! But she wanted to make blackberry dumplings. So after a while I smelled something good in the kitchen and sure enough there was this great concoction bubbling away on the top of the stove. WE couldn't wait to taste it! So, after dinner Mom served it with heavy cream. Dad was in ecstacy! But I was soooo disappointed. I thought it was awful. NOW, I think about that and I wish I could have another chance. It must have been delicious, but way too sophisticated for a kid's taste. That's the kind of thing you might get now at the Old Orchard or the Roycroft Inn!
