mom's best spaghetti sauce!!!!
List of Ingredients
- 1 - 1-1/4 lbs. sweet Italian sausage
- 2 T. water
- 1 large can (28 oz.) tomatoes, chopped, if possible
- 1 @ 6 oz. can tom. paste
- 2 @ 8 oz. tom. sauce
- 1-1/2 t. basil
- 1/2 t. sugar
- 1/4 t. oregano
- 1/2 t. minced garlic
- 1/2 c. red wine OR 1/2 c. water (optional)
Instructions
- Cut sausage into chunks 1 to 1-1/2" long. Put in a large pot with 2 T. water. Cover and cook over med-low heat about 10 minutes. Drain well in colander and wipe out pot with paper towels. Return sausage to pot and brown uncovered about 5 more minutes.
- Chop 28 oz. can of tomatoes, if not already chopped, in food processor or blender, juice and all.
- Stir tomato paste, tomato sauce & chopped tomatoes into sausage.
- Add basil, sugar, oregano, garlic & red wine or water if desired.
- Simmer over low heat with lid ajar so sauce will thicken--about 2-1/2 hrs.
