    Split Pea Soup

    List of Ingredients


    • 2 c. (1 lb.) dried split peas
    • 6 c. water
    • 1 bay leaf
    • 3 c. water
    • 4 t. chicken bouillon granules OR 4 cubes of chicken bouillon
    • pepper to taste
    • hambone, if possible


    Instructions


    1. Rinse peas well. Dump into large pot and add 6 c. water (a hambone, if possible, adds wonderful flavor...ask your butcher). Bring to boil. Reduce heat & simmer 1-1/2 hrs. with bay leaf, covered.

    2. Add 3 c. water & chicken bouillon. Add pepper to taste. Simmer about 20 min. more, covered.

    3. Remove bay leaf before serving & hambone, if added.
