BBQ ( sloppy joes)
These are very good sandwiches--- especially if you have dill pickles and cheese with them. LOL
This recipe was originally for 100 , but I have cut it down to 30. What you don't use, freezes very well.
5 lbs. Hamburger
1/3 C. (scant) vinegar
2/3 C. water (I use this to rinse out the ketchup bottle)
32 oz. ketchup
1/3 C. brown sugar
1 lg. garlic clove-- pressed or minced
2 T. diced onion
2 T. prepared mustard
1 T. salt
1/3 C. rice (not instant)
1/3 C. diced celery
1/2 green pepper, diced
chili powder -- to taste
cinnamon -- my secret ingredient --just a couple of shakes!!
Brown hamburger and drain. Add remaining ingredients and simmer 2 hours or until rice isn't hard anymore. (If you're in a hurry, you CAN use regular rice, but you still need to let the flavors blend by cooking low for at least 1 1/2 hours. This will stick easy , so keep an eye on it, or put it in the crockpot for the usual 6 to 8 hours.)
