    Recipe Introduction


    Whole wheat flour and oatmeal add whole-grain goodness to scrumptious, chewy chocolate chip bars.


    List of Ingredients


    • 1 cup butter, softened
    • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 2 tsps vanilla extract
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 1/4 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
    • 1 cup whole wheat flour
    • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • dash salt
    • 1 (12 oz) pkg chocolate chips
    • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts, toasted*


    Instructions


    1. Heat oven to 375. In large bowl, beat butter at medium speed until soft and smooth. Add brown sugar, sugar and vanilla; blend well. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    2. In medium bowl, stir together oats, whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda and salt.
    3. Slowly add flour mixture to butter mixture, beating until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts. Spoon and spread dough in ungreased 15x10x1-inch pan.
    4. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown; cool on wire rack.


    Final Comments


    Makes 48 bars

    *To toast nuts, place on baking sheet; bake at 375 for 4 to 6 minutes or until pale brown and fragrant.
