    • 1 1/2 cups flour
    • 1 T cocoa
    • 1/2 tsp baking soda
    • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
    • 2 tsp ground ginger
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
    • 1/4 lb unsalted butter, at room temperature
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup sour cream
    • 1/2 cup molasses
    • 2 large eggs
    • 2 T finely grated, peeled fresh gingerroot
    • confectioners' sugar, to serve


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 9" square baking pan.
    2. Sift the flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, salt and spices together.
    3. Cream the butter until it lightens in texture and color. Add the sugars; cream until fluffy. Add the sour cream and molasses; beat well. Add eggs one at a time; blend well, then stir in the fresh ginger and dry ingredients until combined. Scrape into 9" square baking pan.
    4. Bake until a toothpick in the center comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool for about 10 minutes, then cut into squares and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
