    Recipe Introduction

Browning the butter lends a caramel flavor to the frosting of these cakelike cookies.

    List of Ingredients

    • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
    • 1 1/2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1 (8 oz) container sour cream
    • 1 cup butterscotch morsels
    • 3/4 cup butter
    • 3 cups powdered sugar
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1/4 cup milk
    • Pecan halves (optional)

    Instructions

    1. Beat 1 1/2 cups butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy; gradually add brown sugar, beating until blended. Add eggs and 1 tsp vanilla, beating until blended.
    2. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; gradually add to butter mixture, beating well. Add sour cream, beating until blended. Stir in butterscotch morsels.
    3. Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheets; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
    4. Melt 3/4 cup butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat; cook 4 minutes or until butter is lightly browned. Pour butter into a large bowl; cool completely. Stir in powdered sugar and 2 tsps vanilla. Add milk, and stir until frosting is spreading consistency. Spread on cooled cookies; top each cookie with a pecan half, if desired.
