    Recipe Introduction

Slice and bake just as many cookies as you'll need. You can store the dough in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks or in the freezer up to 3 months.

    List of Ingredients

    • 1/3 cup butter
    • 1/3 cup shortening
    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1/2 tsp baking soda
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1/4 cup maple-flavor syrup
    • 1 egg
    • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans (or whatever nuts you want)

    Instructions

    1. Beat butter and shortening in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.
    2. Add brown sugar, baking soda, and salt; beat till combined, scraping the sides of the bowl occasionally. Beat in maple-flavor syrup and egg. Beat in as much flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in remaining flour and nuts with a wooden spoon.
    3. Shape dough into two 7" long rolls. Wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap; chill for 4 to 48 hours.
    4. Cut dough into 1/4" thick slices. Place slices 1" apart on an ungresed cookie sheet. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 7 to 9 minutes or till edges are light brown. Transfer to wire racks and cool. Transport in a covered shallow container.

    Final Comments

    Makes about 48.
